The Executive Director of the SJBEP worked from 1995 until 2009 in the Board of Directors of Business and Industry Pro Recycling (ICPRO), in the development of projects geared towards solid waste pollution prevention, with emphasis in the SJBE’s watershed. Projects included electronic equipments and Xmas tree recycling, coastal cleanups, solid waste pollution prevention public service campaigns, and educational projects, such as Basurarte (TRASHart). In 2010 the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Co. invited the SJBEP’s Executive Director to join the Board of Directors of the local chapter of Keep America Beautiful (www.kab.org), hosted locally by this government agency. KAB works on litter prevention, reuse and recycling. One of the goals of the SJBEP’s Executive Director on KAB will be to further the development of solid waste pollution prevention programs, such as the anti-cigarette butt’s pollution prevention project on estuarine areas.
