| Update |
Update January 2010: PRASA has invested over $1 million dollars in the design of new sanitary collection system that will divert the current Hato Rey’s area sewer discharges to the Caño Martin Pena.
According to the results of SJBEP’s water quality monitoring all water bodies of the San Juan Bay have high levels of oils and greases. We suggest a surprise visit to Ashford Avenue’s restaurants with the media, EPA and EQB management to offer guidance to restaurant owners on proper maintenance of grease traps and used oil management.
Previous update: Because of the obvious complexity of this action, SJBEP staff and STAC members are currently identifying potential alternatives for research on this issue. On 2007, two stormwater sewer systems that discharge untreated sewage water into the Caño Martín Peña channel were eliminated by PRASA.
